A Little Reminder to Stay Cool During the UK Heatwave

Living in the UK, we’re used to grey skies, light rain, and carrying a jacket “just in case.” That’s why every summer heatwave seems to catch us by surprise.

This week has been especially hot across many parts of the UK, with temperatures climbing much higher than we’re used to. While some people love the sunshine, it’s important to remember that extreme heat can be just as challenging as cold weather.

If you’re spending time outdoors, take care of yourself and those around you.

Stay Hydrated

One of the easiest things to forget is drinking enough water. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, try to sip water regularly throughout the day.

Cold drinks, fresh fruit, and homemade iced tea can also help you stay refreshed.

Keep Your Home Cool

During the hottest hours of the day, keep curtains or blinds closed to block direct sunlight.

In the evening, once the temperature begins to drop, open the windows to let cooler air circulate through your home.

Avoid the Midday Sun

If possible, plan outdoor activities in the early morning or later in the evening.

The sun is usually strongest between 11am and 3pm, so staying in the shade during these hours can make a big difference.

Don’t Forget Your Pets

Our furry friends feel the heat too.

Make sure they always have access to fresh water, avoid walking dogs on hot pavements, and never leave pets inside parked cars.

A Perfect Day for Homemade Treats

On hot days like these, I prefer staying indoors with something refreshing from the kitchen.

A slice of homemade lemon cake, chilled fruit, or an iced coffee is sometimes all you need to make the afternoon feel a little more enjoyable.

Baking may sound unusual during a heatwave, but preparing treats early in the morning before the kitchen warms up is always a good idea!

Final Thoughts

The sunshine is wonderful, but your health comes first.

Whether you’re enjoying a walk, relaxing in the garden, or simply staying indoors with a cup of iced coffee, I hope you find a way to stay cool and comfortable.

If you’re in the UK, please look after yourself, drink plenty of water, and enjoy the summer safely.

Stay cool, and see you in the next post!
